Currently we have slow processing because each serial request-response cycle ends up taking a minimum of about 5ms. This significantly limits the update frequency currently. A few changes in this PR in order to significantly reduce the number of request-response cycles so we can push the inner loop up from ~15Hz to ~60Hz.
