Added 'from __future__ import annotations' to support PEP 604 unions (|) on Python < 3.10 and resolve FA102/mypy syntax errors. Also moved type-only imports to TYPE_CHECKING blocks in tests and updated pre-commit config for mypy. Fixed missing return statements and type errors in tests.
